Another week, another tough site visit.
We were called out this week by an accounting firm to help manage a suspected data breach. They weren’t sure what had happened, but their clients had complained of receiving strange messages.
Unfortunately, by the time we got involved, the damage was done.
As their company grew over time, they’d unknowingly become sitting ducks.
Like many companies navigating the post-COVID world, they’d shifted to remote work in 2019, reconfiguring networks to support employees at home.
A friend of the company had configured the email, and it functioned. But this increased accessibility also opened the door to cybercriminals. No real logging in place, nothing watching to check for proper logins, no multifactor authentication.
The question is: What can your company do to avoid this fate?
Start by investing in:
- Time to configure Multifactor authentication. (I know it’s bothersome. It’s more
annoying for the hackers. And it shouldn’t be your only line of defense.) - Robust antivirus and enterprise-grade firewalls
- Reliable backup systems
- Proactive spam filters to block phishing
- Above all, adopt a layered cybersecurity strategy.
Cyber threats don’t wait for you to catch up—prevention is your best defense.
Is your business ready? Let’s talk.
